Pick the right size once, and you only pay once

There are two ways to get dumpster sizing wrong, and both cost money. Go too small, and you’re paying for a second haul (or cramming debris over the rim, which a driver legally can’t take). Go too big, and you’re paying for empty air you never used. And there’s a sneaky third trap — load it with the wrong material and you blow past the weight limit before the box even looks full.

• 15-yard — $299. Our most popular size and the right call for most home projects: garage cleanouts, roofing, kitchen and bath remodels, small construction, landscaping, and estate cleanouts. Holds roughly four to five pickup-truck loads.
• 30-yard — two ways to get a full 30: $499 for a swap (we drop one can, haul it away full, and bring it back empty) or $549 for two cans delivered at once. Best for whole-room renos, big cleanouts, and combined yard + structure debris.
• 45-yard — custom quote. For major rebuilds and construction. (More on why these are custom below.)

For comparison, typical Tampa rates for a comparable rental run $495–$795 based on publicly advertised local pricing — so flat-rate $299 to start leaves room in your budget.

The #1 mistake: confusing volume with weight

Here’s the trap that catches first-timers. Your dumpster has two limits — how much it holds (volume, in cubic yards) and how much it can weigh (tonnage). Landfills charge by weight, so every rental includes a tonnage allowance — 1 ton with us — and anything over is $100/ton (we weigh it at the disposal facility and send you the ticket).

Most household and yard debris is light, so you’ll fill the box long before you hit a ton. But heavy materials flip that math completely:

• Concrete, brick, tile, dirt, and stone are so dense that a box only half full can already exceed the weight limit.
• Roofing shingles weigh roughly 250–300 lbs per “square” (100 sq ft of roof) — a full tear-off adds up fast.
• Wet debris after a storm or flood weighs far more than dry.

The rule: for heavy material, choose a smaller box and don’t fill it to the top. For light, bulky junk, size up — you’ll run out of room before weight is ever an issue. (We go deeper in our weight-limits guide.)

Size by project — the detail

Garage & spring cleanouts → 15-yard. Boxes, old furniture, household clutter, light yard waste. A 15 handles a typical two-car garage purge with room to spare.

Bathroom remodel → 15-yard. Tile, a vanity, drywall, fixtures. Just watch the weight if you’re tearing out a lot of tile or an old cast-iron tub.

Kitchen remodel → 15- or 30-yard. A cabinet-and-counter refresh fits a 15; a full gut with flooring usually wants a 30.

Roof tear-off → sized by squares, not just feet. A single layer of asphalt shingles produces about 3 cubic yards of debris per 10 squares (1,000 sq ft). A typical ~2,000 sq ft single-layer roof often fits a 15; two layers or a larger roof pushes you to a 30 — and because shingles are heavy, weight usually decides this, not volume. Whole-house or estate cleanout → 30-yard. Furniture, appliances, and years of accumulation across multiple rooms. The swap option is handy here — fill it, we swap it, you keep going.

New construction or major rebuild → 45-yard (custom). High volume over a longer timeline.

Pure heavy debris (concrete, dirt, tile) → 15-yard, loaded low. Don’t be tempted to “use all the space” — you’ll hit the weight cap first.

Big job? Think in days and swaps, not just yards

Here’s something the size charts miss. On large jobs, the question usually isn’t “how many cubic yards do I need?” — it’s “how long will I be working, and how many times will I need it emptied?”

That’s why our 30-yard comes two ways: a single can you swap ($499) when you’d rather work one container at a time, or two cans delivered ($549) when you want maximum capacity on-site at once. And it’s why 45-yard jobs are custom-quoted — for big rebuilds, the right answer depends on your timeline and swap cadence, not a number on a chart. When in doubt, size up (or just ask)

If you’re stuck between two sizes, go bigger. The price difference between sizes is almost always less than the cost of a second delivery — and you avoid the headache of an overflowing dumpster a driver can’t legally haul. Not sure? A few items can’t ride in a standard dumpster, and a few carry a flat surcharge instead:

• Refrigerant appliances (fridges, freezers, AC units): $100/item
• Tires: $50–$75 each
• Electronics (TVs, monitors): $50/item
• Household hazardous waste (paint, fuels, propane, chemicals): not accepted — these go to a county hazardous-waste drop-off.
